Ryley's Daily Baseball Pick: April 27th
The New York Mets are set to take on the St Louis Cardinals in the final game of the series starting at 1:15 eastern.
The Mets have Carlos Carrasco taking the mound with an ERA of 1.47 this season. Carrasco is pitching way above his pay grade, giving up 19 runs in 23 innings pitched on the road last season. Carrasco has only been on the road in 1 out of his 3 starts to start the year. Steven Matz, former Met, will be pitching for the Cardinals with an ERA of 5.27 to start the season. Steven Matz has a 2-1 record to start the season regardless of his recent struggles. Matz will rebound against his former team, as the Mets hit only a .225 average against lefties.
I understand how strong the Mets have been but this is a good spot for St. Louis to avoid the sweep and get back on track for another home series versus Arizona. Carrasco and the Mets are due for a letdown spot as they can’t win every game. The Cardinals will be resilient and motivated to get runs on the board early, giving Matz run support. I don’t see him giving up a ton. The Cardinals are a veteran bunch that will refuse to get swept. My Pick is Cardinals ML
