Ryley's Daily Baseball Pick: April 12th

The Chicago Cubs are set to visit the Pittsburgh Pirates tomorrow evening at 4:10 eastern.

The Cubs starting pitcher Drew Smyly struggled against the Pirates last season, giving up six earned runs in 11 innings pitched. In Smyly’s one outing at PNC Park, he surrendered nine hits in five innings. Zach Thompson is expected to take the mound for the Pirates. Facing the Cubs last season, Thompson gave up two runs, one earned through ten innings. Thompson had a 3.24 ERA in 75 innings with the Miami Marlins last season.

The Pirates will have an opportunity to control their home opener as I think Smyly will struggle early. Ke’Bryan Hayes hitting .400 to start the season is poised for a breakout season and that will continue tomorrow. The Pirates will take advantage of Smyly early and Thompson will limit baserunners doing just enough to get the victory. My pick Pirates ML
