On The Rise: March 5th College Lacrosse Predictions

The first weekend of March is here. I know that March Madness is on the horizon, but until then let's ride with some college lacrosse picks. Rest in peace to Operation Fade Penn State, we barely knew you. Another 3-2 weekend last week, lets keep aiming higher.

**All odds provided by Draftkings Sportsbook**

Ohio State -1.5 vs Cornell O/U 26.5

As good as I think that Cornell is going to be this year, I am still sort of surprised that this line is 1.5. Both of these teams may be undefeated but the Buckeye’s undefeated looks a little bit better than the Big Red. It is tough to look past a 20-8 over North Carolina and a 17 to 12 win over Harvard. I have no doubt that this will be a competitive game but I think this game will be all Ohio State. I like Ohio State -1.5.

The Pick: OSU -1.5

Michigan -1.5 vs Delaware O/U 27.5

Looking at these two teams I think this will be the tale of preparation. Some teams like to schedule easier opponents earlier on to get their confidence up and get wins under their belt. Michigan is already 6-0 but it is all against opponents in the bottom of the Division 1 rankings. Now Delaware has put some cupcakes in their early schedule but they also had Duke. Delaware looked really solid in their 19-14 loss to Duke. They say that you can learn more about teams from their losses than their wins and I think that is the case with this Blue Hen team. I think Delaware gets it done here and hands Michigan their first loss. I like Delaware +1.5.

The Pick: Delaware +1.5

Virginia -5.5 vs Johns Hopkins O/U 26.5

There is not too much work to be done with dissecting this game. UVA is a wagon and they are coming in hot after beating Syracuse 20-11. Hopkins is sitting at 3-2 and even though they are my favorite team I just do not think that they are up to handle Conor Shellenberger and the Hoos. Shellenberger is ready for the professional level of lacrosse while still being a junior in college. This game is also taking place in Charlottesville and although Hopkins owns the historical match up, the Wahoos are approaching dynasty status. Give me the Cavs and the points.

The Pick: Virginia -5.5

Jacksonville -2.5 vs Utah O/U 24.5

So I will happily admit that I chalked up Jacksonville beating Duke to “February Duke”. They followed up that with great wins over Denver and Air Force. Coach John Galloway has himself a real deal team down in Duval. They have had the title of “Transfer U” for the past couple years in college lacrosse. They have a big draw for players at bigger schools who want a change of scenery. There is no better pitch than “do you want to get more playing time and live by the beach”. Speaking of that, they’re top point producer, Max Waldbaum (22 G, 8A), just so happens to be a transfer from D3 Tufts. Utah is another team that is on the rise but they just do not quite have the season resume that the Dolphins have. This is a clash of up and comers and I am here for it. I am taking Jacksonville -2.5.

Quick Picks

I included this section because there is not some big rationale for these teams other than they are absolute wagons and I will be taking them until they show me otherwise.

The Picks: Maryland -2.5 and Georgetown -4.5

Those are my predictions for this weekend's games. Stay tuned for another blog dropping soon with my predictions for next time. If you like my picks, or disagree with me, let me know on Twitter @t_hohenshelt. As always lets have ourselves a weekend and make some money, responsibly.
