March 4th College Lacrosse Picks and Predictions

We are now into March. We've been treated to some fantastic lacrosse so far. I have 2 games locked and loaded. Let's do it!

UPenn -4.5 (-615) vs Penn State (+380) O/U 24.5

It is not too often in sports that the top Division 1 schools in Pennsylvania get to show down but luckily for us, lacrosse can afford us that opportunity. It's Ivy League versus State School in the ultimate matchup. These two have had quite the competitive history. These two have faced off 20 times in total with the Nittany Lions are on top with 12 wins. My angle on this game relates to their most recent matchups. Since 2015 they have met 7 times with the largest margin of victory being a 4 goal win for the Quakers in 2016. Of those 7 games, 4 have come down to one goal. Last year, Penn State would have been the victors had it not been for some late game heroics by the Quakers. The Nittany Lions have outscored opponents 63-48 while Penn is even with opponents at 21 scored and 21 allowed. I know the Quakers have only played two games but that is quite telling if you ask me. We’ll get a better sample size after this matchup but I like PSU to cover the 4.5.

The Pick: PSU +4.5 (-130)

Maryland -1.5 (-135) vs Notre Dame (+105) O/U 24.5

We have a top 5 matchup in College Park this weekend and this will be the best test of these two squads. I know it’s only March but I think this fighting Irish team is looking complete from the top down. The Terps are still the reigning national champs and this game is at home which is why I think the books have them favored. Maryland started off the season with a loss to Loyola. They followed it up with back to back wins over Syracuse and Princeton. Notre Dame sits undefeated coming off a redemption win over Georgetown. I think the Irish can make this a game. The Terps are figuring out who their goalie is going to be after losing Logan Mcnaney to injury. Notre Dame’s offense is looking impressive so far. The Kavanaughs combined for 6 points against Georgetown. Eric Dobson and Reilly Gray both posted hat tricks. I think this is the chance for both teams to show everyone what they truly have. I am taking the Irish and the points here. I think they can win but I am taking the spread just in case.

The Pick: Notre Dame +1.5 (-145)
