Momentum: March 19th College Lacrosse Predictions
Updated: Mar 19, 2022
Welcome back once again for another weekend of college lacrosse. I know we are in the beginning of March Madness but there is no better way to build your bankroll for the long haul than some college lacrosse. Last week we finally achieved a clean sweep and went 4-0. Hopefully we can bring some of that magic with us this week. Let’s dive in.
**Odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook**
Maryland -1.5 vs UVA O/U 27.5
There is no over-reaction when I say that this is the game of the regular season. It has everything any sports fan could ask for. First of all it is the rematch of last year's National Championship. Then you add in the fact that Maryland is ranked #1 and UVA is ranked #2 AND both teams are undefeated. Maryland leads the all time series 47-46. This game is taking place at Audi Field which is an MLS stadium, and I know for a fact that place will be rocking. UVA has been victorious in the last two match ups by a combined 2 goals. I have a feeling this is going to be a game that comes down to one goal. Both offenses can go goal for goal with each other while defenses are also quite capable of erasing possessions. These teams are quite evenly matched. Since I'm predicting a one goal finish I will be taking UVA +1.5 just to cover either a win or one goal loss.
The Pick: UVA +1.5
Princeton -1.5 vs Penn O/U 23.5
The Ivy League is proving why lacrosse is better with them in it. As it stands right now 6 of the 7 Ivy teams are ranked in the Top 20 and 3 of them are in the Top 10. Princeton and Penn currently sit at #3 and #6 respectively. Princeton is coming into this off a very big win over then 16-11 win over then #3 ranked Rutgers. Penn is without a doubt a good lacrosse team, they have a 3-1 record including a win over Duke. However, they are 1 or 2 plays away from being 0-4. They beat Nova 8-7 scoring 2 goals in the final 1:20. They also are only one last second goal better than a questionable Penn State squad. Even Duke was also an overtime victory. This is not me saying that they are bad, I am just saying they have not truly separated themselves from other teams in my eyes. I know they have a massive upside, they just have to show me. In this game I will be taking Princeton -1.5. They are 67-21 all time against Penn, and Penn has won the last two meetings. I think this is when Princeton gets back on track and dominates.
The Pick: Princeton -1.5
Ohio State -2.5 vs Denver O/U 26.5
Denver has spent a little over a decade making a name for themselves in college lacrosse. This is largely in part to being under the direction of legendary head coach Bill Tierney. The Pios are always in pre season conversation to make runs in the big dance. This year they have struggled so far. They are 3-3 and have yet to have any sort of statement win and unfortunately for them I do not think that will be this weekend. The all time series is tied at 12-12. However, the Buckeyes are 6-3 as the home team in this match up, and this game will be in Columbus. Ohio State's offense is on a tear and they show no signs of stopping. The team has put up 97 goals this year while giving up 61. Denver has posted 95 goals themselves but have also given up 94 to their opponents. Everything shows the Buckeyes here so that is what I am going with.
The Pick: OSU -2.5
Those are my predictions for this weekend's games. Stay tuned for another blog dropping soon with my predictions for next time. If you like my picks, or disagree with me, let me know on Twitter @t_hohenshelt. As always lets have ourselves a weekend and make some money, responsibly.
