Moving On Up: March 12th College Lacrosse Predictions

Last weekend proved one thing, the Ivies are not to be messed with. I faded to ivy league programs and got burned. Overall it wasn’t our best weekend but like I’ve said in the past you learn more from your losses than your wins. So let’s get back on track.

**All odds provided by Draftkings Sportsbook**

Georgetown -3.5 vs Richmond O/U 23.5

I see this as a big bounce back opportunity for the Hoyas. They suffered their first loss of the season last weekend to Princeton. The way the Ivy League is performing lately I would say that it’s less of a knock on Georgetown and more of a compliment on Princeton. Richmond is sitting at 3-2 overall with both of those losses coming against ranked opponents They lost by four to North Carolina and by six to Duke. Georgetown is currently ranked number five and are going to be out to prove why they deserve to be a top-five team. I think 3.5 goals is manageable to cover for the Hoyas offense and we all know that Goalie Owen McElroy can shut down Richmond. I like Georgetown here.

The Pick: Georgetown -3.5

Penn -3.5 vs Villanova O/U 24.5

They always say that life is too short to bet the under. Well that is not always the case. This game will be the first time I have ever taken and under in any sort of lacrosse game. The reasoning is quite simple. These two teams have competed every season since 1988 for a trophy called the Farrell cup. If we take a look back even just to 2010 the total score has only gone over 25 goals one time and only 5 times in the entire history of his match up. It’s always close between these two teams and it is usually a lower scoring affair. That is why I am riding with Under for the first time ever.

The Pick: Under 24.5

Army -4.5 vs Lafayette O/U 25.5

I’m making this my lock of the week. Army is (wait for it) 20-0 against Lafayette all time. Since the year 2000, Lafayette has only gotten within 4 goals of the Black Knights 6 times. The Troops are looking dominant after beating Syracuse in the Dome last week. There isn’t much else to say, you do not mess with the US Army.

The Pick: Army -4.5

Brown -3.5 vs Stony Brook O/U 27.5

Army was my lock of the week and this game is my flyer of the week. Brown has looked very good this year, they are one of the main proponents of the Ivy League success. Brown is 4-1 this season and the current #19 team in the country. Their only loss is to #11 UNC. Brown has done a good job winning but not a great job covering, they were favored -1.5 in back to back matchups and did not cover. Stony Brook is also 4-1 this season with their only loss being by 1 goal to #4 Rutgers. The situation with Stony Brook this year is that they are leaving the America East Conference to join the CAA next season . The America East came out and said that they can’t compete in the conference tournament this year. Obviously this is devastating news to the players and I know that’s got them all fired up to prove themselves for an at large bid to the big dance. I’m rocking with the Sea Wolves here.

The Pick: Stony Brook +3.5

Those are my predictions for this weekend's games. Stay tuned for another blog dropping soon with my predictions for next time. If you like my picks, or disagree with me, let me know on Twitter @t_hohenshelt. As always lets have ourselves a weekend and make some money, responsibly.
