February 25th College Lacrosse Picks and Predictions
February is almost over and we have a great slate of lacrosse games today. I went through and found my three best picks for everyone. Lets make the last weekend in February a good day on the books. Let's get it!!
Notre Dame -2.5 (-220) vs Georgetown (+180) O/U 24.5
These two teams met last year in South Bend in a matchup that saw the Hoyas come away with a 16-11 win. The Fighting Irish are out to prove themselves after not making last year's NCAA tournament which everyone labeled as a snub. Georgetown suffered a 1st round exit after being upset by Delaware. As for this season, the Hoyas are still looking for their first win and unfortunately I do not think it will be in this game. Notre Dame was phenomenal last year thanks to the likes of Chris and Pat Kavanaugh as well as their goalie Liam Entenmann. This year they added Yale transfer Chris Fake to their already talented defense. I know Notre Dame is out to make sure that there are no doubts about them being in the tournament this year. I think 2.5 points is a fair spread for a game such as this and with Notre Dame outscoring their last two opponents 39-18, their offense is tuned up for this one. I am with the Irish.
The Pick: Notre Dame -2.5 (-110)
Penn -1.5 (-115) vs Duke (-115) O/U 24.5
This matchup is actually quite intriguing when you look at the history. These two have met 9 times since 2010 and Penn actually leads the series 5-4. Penn even beat Duke in 2013 which was the year Duke won the national championship. The Quakers only have one game under the belt with a win against Georgetown. Duke on the other hand is already 4 games down and in true February Duke fashion, they dropped a game to Jacksonville. For those who do not know, Duke is famous for losing a game in February to a team they are significantly better than. Now that they’ve gotten that loss out of the way, the sky's the limit. The Quakers still have the likes of Sam Handley and Dylan Gergar to help them against Duke but I think the Blue Devils have this one. Brennan O’Neil, Dyson Williams, and Andrew McAdorey have combined for 58 points in 4 games and after losing to the Quakers last year, I know they want this one back. It is still February so in case of another 1 goal loss, I will take Duke and the points.
The Pick: Duke +1.5 (-155)
Virginia -3.5 (-475) vs Ohio State (+310) O/U 26.5
We’ve got spring break lacrosse here in this 7 PM matchup. These two teams square off under the lights in the warm weather of Naples, Florida. To me, warm weather means everyone is playing loose and everyone is playing fast. The Virginia Cavaliers have been red hot out of the gates in their first two games. They have put up 42 goals in just two games but also have given up 34 to opponents.Ohio state put up 34 total in their first 2 games of the season. The Buckeyes have the ability to score big but they also can get into a defensive battle such as they did last week against UNC in their 8-5 victory over the Tar Heels. If they had put up another big number I think we would be looking at a higher point total for this game. I think we are going to be treated to some fireworks down in Florida. They both can score big and lets be honest, betting the under is not that fun anyway. I am on the over.
The Pick: Over 26.5 (-115)
