April 16th College Lacrosse Predictions

Updated: Apr 22

Here at Pickin’ Winners we are all about honesty and transparency. The truth is that this weekend’s board is not the best that it has been this season. But no need to fear, we do not back down when things get tough. Lets hop right in.

**Odds provided by Draftkings sports book**

Loyola Maryland -1.5 vs Boston U O/U 24.5

I hope that the sports books aren’t out to get us but this line has a 5-5 team favored 1.5 against an 8-3 team. The only reason that I could see the greyhounds getting favorite hair is because of the win over Duke. It is tough to say how much value there is in that, considering Duke's losses. I’m not saying beating Duke means nothing but other teams have managed to do it as well. Boston has looked pretty convincing and most of their games. They have had to go toe to toe with some of the Ivy League power houses and as of right now, a loss to a good Ivy does not hurt as much. I think that Boston getting points is a gift that we should take advantage of.

The Pick: Boston +1.5

Navy -1.5 vs Lafayette O/U 24.5

When conferences like the Ivy League in ACC look a bit too scary to handicap we can always lean on the “mid majors” for some help. Mid major does not mean the same thing in lacrosse as it does in football or basketball. There are only 76 teams in Division 1 Men's Lacrosse so there has to be a top and bottom and therefore a middle. Navy has not been a particularly high scoring team this year. They are scoring just a bit over 11 goals a game and only allowing 9 to opponents. Lafayette is clocking in at about 12 goals a game. I just don’t feel that this is going to be a high scoring affair and that is ok. I think it can still be a good game and may even come down to the wire, but I think it’ll happen in under 25 goals.

The Pick: Under 24.5

Drexel -1.5 vs Hofstra O/U 23.5

Here we have a CAA matchup that could get very interesting. Drexel has played 10 games so far this season and five of them have been decided by one goal. Hofstra is coming in off a 12-11 victory over preseason favorite Delaware. The Pride are starting to pick up at just the right time (shout out Brian Andrews). Through the course of a season there tends to be a lot of repeating themes, and if something is happening at or above 50% we have to roll with it. I like the Pride +1.5 to keep it close.

The Pick: Hofstra +1.5

UMass -3.5 vs Fairfield O/U 25.5

It seems like I have found UMass on my slate a decent amount this season. For some reason they feel like a team that I have been able to get a decent read on. The trend for their season is that they are not scoring at the rate of previous seasons and the other trend is that they are allergic to covering. These two teams have met a total of 17 times in their history and they have gone under a total of 26 goals 15 times, that is a 88% occurrence. Fairfield has hung within 3 goals in 5 of their all time match ups and they went under 25 all 5 times. I think this will be another low scoring CAA affair. We are 3-0 picking unders this season so lets keep it going.

The Pick Under 25.5

Those are my predictions for this weekend's games. Stay tuned for another blog dropping soon with my predictions for next time. If you like my picks, or disagree with me, let me know on Twitter @t_hohenshelt. As always lets have ourselves a weekend and make some money, responsibly.
